Our History

The Club Was Founded

The Group initially was formed in the old Turners Taxi office in Sedgefield, a place to meet and discuss all things model railways and what gauge of exhibits we should consider building. Jonathan Cannings organised and founded, Making Tracks Railway Society along with Steve Twigg  the predecessor of Sedgefield Model Railway Group  offering some like minded individuals a safe haven at the state of the COVID era. Unfortunately we were not to stay in the Taxi office for very long due to the tenancy expiring, it did however allow us to get started on building an ‘O’ Gauge layout.

New Location

Fortunately we were able to be offered a new location in Sedgefield Community Associations building and the Kell Room is now our home from where we have been able to continue promoting our Group and Jonathon organised the first two Model Railway Exhibitions in the Parish Hall with 8 Exhibitors attending along with 3 Trade stand Exhibitors, however we have since then hosted two Autumn Exhibitions and a Spring Exhibition in the Main Hall of Ceddesfeld.

Future Plans

Talking over the Festive season we have decided to build an ‘N’ Gauge layout to scale based on Sedgefield Station, which we plan to have completed by Easter and have the opportunity to take on the road and get exhibited.
